The Wisconsin Certified Burn Boss Program (CBBP) hit a major milestone in October 2025: the first official meeting of the Certification Board consisting of representatives from the WPFC, the Wisconsin DNR, and the Wisconsin firefighter community.
The Board will begin processing applications within the next month or so, at which point experienced burn bosses will have two years to apply for certification through the CBBP’s Legacy Application. The Legacy Application allows burn bosses with substantial experience to become certified without meeting the training and evaluation requirements of the Standard application.
New burn bosses can apply for certification through the Standard Application, which launches this year, includes a training program requirement, and does not expire. Stay tuned for more information!
