Greetings to all the students and companies that my company Incident Management Specialist has provide certified National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) classes to since 2010.

You are receiving this email to let you know that I have decided that now is the time to start winding down my IMS business and to start looking for some individuals or companies to pass my training ‘torch’ on to a new generation of certified NWCG instructors.

Over the last 14 years I have had the pleasure in providing NWSA/NWCG certified courses to the 800 plus individuals in 63 plus classes over the past 14 years. With my primary objectives in delivering these courses was to provide a source for training and education to help everyone be safer while working in the wildland fire and prescribe fire community.

My current certification through the National Wildfire Suppression Association is approved for me to deliver these courses is valid till December 31, 2026. After January 1, 2025 I will no longer be hosting any new NWCG classes through my company. Instead, I plan on working with individuals or companies that have an interest in providing these certified classes in the future.

During the time from January 1, 2025 to December 31, 2026 I will be working to with companies and individuals that have an interest in developing instructors for delivering the certified NWCG to their employees and or outside of their company to the wildland fire and prescribe fire communities.

I have developed an IMS Instructor Development Program Guide that provides the necessary steps that a person will need to follow to become a certified instructor though NWSA to deliver the certified NWCG courses.

To become a NWSA instructor an individual must first take the courses and complete the task book for the NWCG position that they want to become NWCG qualified in. Then the individual must take an approved instructor training course. Then then one of the last steps in the NWSA instructor’s development process to become a NWSA certified instructor the individual must teach the class under a current certified NWSA instructor.

Since my NWSA certification is valid through December 31, 2026, I will serve as a certified mentor for this part of the NWSA certification process to help the future instructors become NWSA certified to instruct the NWCG certified course. This is why I will no longer be hosting classes at the end of 2024. This will allow time in 2025 and 2026 for me to mentor individuals interested in becoming certified by NWSA to instruct NWCG courses.

I am offering the S-130/S-190/L-180 class at Oregon Fire Department, WI. on November 16, 2024 which is the entry level course for becoming and instructor. If you are interested please go to my website if you are interested in taking this class.

If you are interested in participating in my first class to learn how to become and instructor for NWCG classes, please contact me by November 1, 2024 to register.
