Honoring Keith Symon

Honoring Keith Symon

Please see the following message from our Chair regarding the passing of Keith Symon.

Keith Symon, a private landowner who has been implementing savanna restoration on his and surrounding properties for many decades, was accidentally killed Tuesday while working on his beloved oak savanna.  Keith first came to this driftless oasis as a young adult when his family purchased some land south of Spring Green during the 1960’s.  In one way or another, Keith has explored this property ever since with an objective eye, a creative intuition and a wry humor.  As part of that restoration effort, Keith has been applying prescribed fire to his property for longer than many of us have lived and he has supported the Wisconsin Prescribed Fire Council throughout our history.  As such, Keith has done much to advance the safe and effective implementation of prescribed fire in Wisconsin and will be greatly missed.  Further information on Keith will be forthcoming but, until then, please share this sad news as you see appropriate and send your thoughts and prayers to the Symon family.  If needed, messages can be sent to WPFC and we will forward them on to Russ and Rowie Roskie. Rowie is Keith’s sister.
