Prescribed Fire After Action Review
May 25 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm
Dear Fire Friends,
I hope you are all well and you had a successful spring fire season. Now that Covid is waning we are bringing back a fire event that has been well attended and appreciated. If you want off this list, please let me know.
The Prairie Enthusiasts and The Friends of the Brooklyn SWA invite you to an inter-organization “After Action Review”. Previous group AARs have been very interesting and have allowed the “Lessons Learned” to be widely shared. The intent is for burn leaders and all crew to share big and little stories of successes and challenging experiences, so others can learn and hopefully avoid future problems. The basic framework for the event will be food, drink, Situation Awareness and L A C E S.
This event is not intended to malign anyone or any organization but to share, in a constructive way, our fire experiences to make us safer, more effective and minimize negative PR. For Example: standard procedure is to refer to assigned positions and not personal names ( “Sam really screwed up the internal ignition” is not helpful, respectful, or informative.) This will be an open forum for everyone to share their ideas. Newer crew members are encouraged to share their thoughts along with experienced crew.
If you have had a recent interesting fire experience and would like to be part of the formal program, please contact Dan Wallace (below) soon. We will have a screen, projector and computer, with your presentations loaded so we all get the benefit of maps, weather, photos and all useful background information. Your input here is what makes this event useful and interesting.
Details: Everyone who is interested in safe prescribed fire is invited – please share this invite with others. Please share this with others in your organization. Carpool as appropriate. This is an open-air event but please do not come if you feel sick and/or should be isolating.
Wednesday May 25, 2022. Food will be available at 5:45 PM, program will start at 6 PM and end by about 7:30 PM
We will be at Badger Prairie County Park, just East of Verona, behind Farm and Fleet. We will be in the shelter at the top of the hill. Event will be held rain or shine but cancelled if dangerous weather. ( Thanks Dane County Parks for hosting.)
Pizza and one drink will be provided for anyone with a proper RSVP. See below.
Cost is $5, which may cover our costs ( I like round numbers). Additional sponsors and donations appreciated.
To RSVP: Please send your name, pizza flavor preference, beer/soft drink preference, and program topic if presenting. Send to: Dan.firstname.lastname@example.org with Subject “AAR”. RSVP appreciated but not required. Food and drink will not be available to you if no RSVP.
Feel free to call if questions: 608 / 698 – 5144
