See below for an opportunity for anyone interested in taking an on-line version of the certified NWCG – S- 290 – Intermediate Fire Behavior course. This class is being held on March 1, 2024 and registration is due February 15, 2024.

This Intermediate Fire Behavior Course S-290 is hosted by Incident Management Specialist LLC this is an opportunity to learn how to use fire behavior knowledge to safely suppress wildfires and manage prescribed fires. This course is National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) certified. The online course work can be completed in approximately fifteen hours (current average), but may vary depending on level of student knowledge.

This S-290 course is the second course in five course sequence developing wildland fire behavior prediction knowledge and skills. It builds upon the basics in S-190, Introduction to Wildland Fire Behavior, but with more detailed information about characteristics and interactions of the wildland fire environment (fuels, weather, and topography) that affect wildland fire behavior for safety purposes.

The online portion of this course consists of a pre-course test and twelve online modules with a test in which each student must successfully complete.

Because of the current Covid 19 environment the delivery of this course will be done online rather than having the students be required to come together in a formal classroom setting.
