NWCG S-130/S-190 – Basic Wildland Firefighter and Prescribed Fire Training

These courses are being offered through a partnership between Middleton Parks & Recreation and Incident Management Specialist LLC.
This 32‐hour course encompasses S‐130 Fire Fighter (24 hrs. online and 8 hrs. formal workshop), S‐190 Introduction to Wildland Fire Behavior (self-study), L‐180 Human Factors on the Fireline, and I-100 Introduction to the Incident Command System and IS-700 (self-study) training. It is designed for entry level firefighters and personnel and required by the National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) for agencies subscribing to National Interagency Management System (NIMS).
Because of the Covid 19 pandemic this class delivery the schedule is designed to minimize personal exposure by having the student complete 6 hours of class online materials before the to the student attends there are 4 to 6 hour assigned session for the completion of the four workstations on fire shelter use, hand tool use, handline construction and water equipment in an outdoors environment
Location: The classroom/field day will be held on Friday, April 21, 2023, from 9:am to 5pm. at:
Orchid Heights Shelter 3960 Valley Ridge Road Middleton, WI.
Course Registration: You must register for these courses by April 15, 2023, to be eligible to attend the classroom/field day for these courses.
Instructor: This course will be taught by Incident Management Specialist LLC, instructor Ken Terrill from Sun Prairie, WI. Ken is certified by the National Wildfire Suppression Association (NWSA) to deliver courses approved by the National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG), which is the national organization that has developed the training and qualification standards for wildfire and prescribe fire professionals. Ken has over 30 years of experience in working wildfire and prescribe fire for the State of Wisconsin, South Dakota and nationally.
