NWCG Basic Wildfire S-130/S-190/L-180

April 27 @ 8:00 am - 4:30 pm

See the following opportunity for anyone interested in taking an on-line version of the certified NWCG – Basic Wildfire & Prescribed Fire online course (S-190/S-130/L-180).

This 32‐hour course encompasses S‐130 Fire Fighter (24 hrs. online and 8 hrs. formal field workshop), S‐190 Introduction to Wildland Fire Behavior (self-study), L‐180 Human Factors on the Fireline, and I-100 Introduction to the Incident Command System and IS-700 (self-study) training. It is designed for entry level firefighters and personnel and required by the National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) for agencies subscribing to National Interagency Management System (NIMS). These courses are designed for entry-level personnel with little or no formal training in wildfire fire suppression or prescribe fire. The curriculum for these courses includes: wildfire and prescribed fire terminology, effects of fuel, weather, and topography on wildfire and prescribe fire, fire line safety, fire line construction, transportation safety, fire physics, introduction to the Incident Command System, the use of basic firing equipment (such as fusees and drip torches), and introduction to wildland tools, pumps, engines, and hoses.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will earn a NWCG certificate which may be necessary to work on wildfires or to participate in prescribe fires sponsored by some agencies. Some agencies also require that the person complete a physical fitness test before receiving the full qualifications of Wildland Fire Fighter Type II. These Wildfire Firefighter Type II courses are prerequisites for all other NWCG fire‐related training.

Lunch will be provided.  This program will be held in The Lodge at the Discovery Center.  Materials for the 24-hour online portion will be e-mailed to participants after registration.  Space is limited and pre-registration is required by 4/12.
