In Wisconsin, we have worked with members and donors, landowners, business, public agencies, and communities to conserve more than 244,231 acres in some of Wisconsin’s most beloved and ecologically significant landscapes, including the Baraboo Hills, the Door Peninsula and the forests and wild lakes in the Northwoods. The Prairie Enthusiasts – The Prairie Enthusiasts seek to ensure the perpetuation and recovery of prairie, oak savanna, and other associated ecosystems of the Upper Midwest through protection, management, restoration, and education. In doing so, we strive to work openly and cooperatively with private landowners and other private and public conservation groups. A critical land management practice is prescribed burning, which we do on lands we own and private land that we manage, with a focus on remnant fire-dependent ecosystems. Our burn program, along with other restoration activities, relies solely on enthusiastic trained volunteers to accomplish our goals.
